Biographie de Sean Paul

Fils d'une peintre jamaïcaine très célèbre, le jeune Sean Paul Henriques (il a des origines portugaises de par son père) n'est pas très fixé quant à son avenir. Sportif d'exception, il intégre l'équipe nationale de water polo avant d'être engagé comme banquier. A l'écoute de Shabba Ranks et de Super Cat, ses idoles, il se tourne vers la culture dancehall et s'amuse à improviser quelques textes en public. Remarqué, entre autres, par le groupe Third World, il produit en 1996 son premier single : "Baby Girl". Suivront quatre autres titres ("Hot Gal Today", "Deport them", "Infiltrate" et "Excite me") puis l'album "Stage One", élu troisième disque reggae de l'an 2000 aux Etats-Unis. Trois ans plus tard, "Dutty Rock" le consacre auprès de ses pairs. Des artistes comme Beyonce, Busta Rhymes ou Sasha s'allient à son style ragga hip hop, donnant ainsi naissance à des tubes qui n'ont jamais quitté les ondes. Tels "Baby Boy" et la reprise de "I'm still in love with you". Son nouvel album, "The Trinity", est disponible dans les bacs. Un nouveau carton en perspective ?

Sean PaulReggae superstar Sean Paul is set to launch a one-man campaign to stop youth violence in Jamaica on his new album. The singer insists his upcoming dancehall release won't be full of party anthems, but will deal with issues that concern him about his native country.

Paul tells MTV News, "The content is just a little different than what people expect from me. It's not about partying, it's not about ladies; it's about the kids with the guns in the streets. It's more reality."

And he hopes one new track, "Sufferer," prompts gun-wielding gang members to give up their arms and stop the violence. He adds, "I'm talking about the younger generation that has no other option for success than to find a gun somewhere. I try to appeal to them: 'I know you a sufferer, but it doesn't mean that you can't or shouldn't expect any better.' It's a lot different than from what I usually say, like, 'Get busy, shake that thing.'"

Paul will dedicate the album to two young friends who have recently been killed in youth-related violence. He adds, "I saw potential in these two kids and many others. It really hit home. And I'm thinking of a voice, I need to say something to people."
